The 2024 American Gold Eagle holds one troy ounce of fine gold in a 33.931-gram $50 coin of 22 karat gold, 91.67% gold with silver and copper, 32.7 millimeters across and 2.87 thick with a reeded edge. The reverse is the eagle head introduced in 2021, designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. The obverse keeps Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Liberty from the 1907 double eagle, used since 1986. The law directs the Mint to use gold mined in the United States where it is available.
